We are five days away from the trade deadline and there haven't been any superstar type moves as of yet. Starting with the excitement of the day, Ullmark scored (a first for a Bruins goaltender), and we discuss the new players for the B's. Mike and Chris also talk about the potential D pairs going into the playoffs with the acquisition of Dmitry Orlov. John Gibson had three 50 save games in one calendar month, something not done since 55-56. Ilya Lyubushkin scored an unassisted short-handed overtime goal, the first time since 1937. Dans Locmelis and Georgii Merkulov are both exceeding expectations in their respective leagues. We talk about Anthony Duclair and his newly founded Anthony Duclair Foundation. We discuss prospect Devin Kaplan of the BU Terriers (Flyers prospect) as well as a dive into what the Vegas Knights need to do to improve at the deadline. With two weeks to go til the trade deadline, all the gossip is on who will get moved. We delve into other topics as well as dip our toes into the trade talk.
Olli Matt signed a two year extension with the Red Wings, which could be more important than it first sounds. Ryan O'Reilly was dealt to the Leafs, but is this the way they should have spent their draft capital? We take a hard look at the Ottawa Senators and bandy about on who should stay and who should be shown the door. Carolina always looks impressive, but thanks to Sam Fels, we have an article showing that there might be less teeth in the 'Canes than we might want to believe. Paul Jerrard unfortunately has passed away at the age of 57, and Alex Ovechkin is on a leave due to his father's passing. To both families we extend our deepest condolences. Matt Barzal was injured against the Bruins, yet another setback for the Islanders. Moneypuck.com has come out with playoff odds and some we question. We close the show with some Twitter Poll Results. Lots here to dig in to so give a listen and Enjoy the Show!

One week after the All Star Weekend we have some teams playing their first games, with plenty of rust to go around. The trade deadline now looms 3 weeks away and we start out with a couple rumors mostly focused around Jacob Chychrun. We also talk about the Rangers trade for Tarasenko. We dive into a deep discussion regarding a statement from sports radio in Boston that Matt Grzelcyk is a third pairing defenseman. Fair warning, we delve into some stats here. Max Domi came to the defense of Patrick Kane and received 17 penalty minutes for his actions, but were they warranted or necessary? The Athletic has released (thanks Sean Gentille and Dom Luszczyszyn) its latest power rankings along with team needs, which we dissect. Bo Horvat and the Isles have agreed to an 8 year extension. Brett Harrison has had yet another multi-point night. The Beanpot finals for the men and women will take place Monday and Tuesday this week. Enjoy the Show!

With the all star weekend in the books, we turn our attention to the trade deadline. The Isles have kicked us off, acquiring Bo Horvat from the Canucks. But will they keep him? The Washington Capitals appear to have some defense issues, as none of them are signed beyond this season with the exception of John Carlson. We then delve further into a discussion of players (wingers) that the Bruins could pick up on medium contracts. Buccigross tweeted out that the NHL needs 100 Marchands and not goals above expected, which leads to a frank discussion of his possibly getting into the hall of fame based on a Peter Tenkrat tweet. The main portion of the show revolves around Gary Bettman and his 30 years as commissioner of the NHL as well as the TV ratings, which are in decline. A slightly longer episode to be sure, but well worth the listen, so let us know what you think and Enjoy the Show!

The All Star break is a week away and we still have upheaval in the Western Conference. The B's have lost two in a row for the first time all year and the trade deadline looms large. We start with a potential goaltending controversy in Calgary, where Dan Vladar has won 5 in a row and has better numbers than Markstrom. Auston Matthews is out for a minimum of 3 weeks...how could that affect Toronto? Jimmy Murphy has speculated that either Brandon Carlo or Jake DeBrusk would have to be included to acquire Bo Horvat. Ilya Mikheyev will miss the rest of the season after having surgery. The Canucks however have no cure for their canucklehead ills. Jim Montgomery updated us on Jake DeBrusk. Matt Nieto was traded back to the Avs in a four player trade with the Ducks. We talk about two Bruins prospects and discuss the latest faux pas by Bruce Cassidy. Listen, comment and...Enjoy the Show!

Its the last week of January and the All Star Weekend and Trade Deadline are fast approaching. The rumors are heating up but there are other issues to discuss as well. We start in Florida, where the team is struggling to meet expectations. We move northwest to Vancouver where the reality show is in full swing, with the GM actively interviewing head coach candidates and Boudreau is getting emotional. Krejci has come out and stated among other things in a long quote (thanks Ty Anderson), that the coaching change in Boston has been good. Toews is rumored to be on the move out of Chicago and could land in Boston and the rumors swirl around Horvat. There has even been an asking price put out there by Jeff Marek. Jaxson Stauber could be a reason the 'Hawks miss out on Bedard as he looked good in a 5-3 win over the Blues, his first in the NHL. John Gibson has moved into 2nd place all time for wins on the Ducks. Congrats to both of them! We pose the question should Corey Crawford be a hall of famer? Jim Montgomery gave a quote after the Bruins/Leafs game on the 15th that seems to indicate that the players are in charge. Finally, we talk about Jaro Halak and his 16 years in the NHL as an "undersized" goaltender. Lots to discuss and breakdown. Give a listen, comment and Enjoy the Show!

Middle of January and the standings are truly starting to reflect what we will see at the end of the season. There may be a change or two but I think we know what we will be seeing come playoff time. We start the show with congratulations for the Kraken and their sweeping of a 7 game road trip...first time ever in NHL history. We review last week's Twitter Poll results regarding Pastrnak. Tanner Pearson appears to be done for the year, and Quinn Hughes isn't happy about the situation. The Canucks have other things on their plate as well, including Bo Horvat and what they will do with him. Could he end up in Colorado? Andrei Kuzmenko has made his wishes known after just 41 games in the NHL. Tomas Tatar talks about his time in the league and how it felt like being in a video game. Pavel Zacha has signed an extension with the Bruins for 4 years, 19 million dollars. Where is Pasta's deal? Finally we talk about the preseason prognostications for the B's and how we all got it so wrong. A strong show to be sure, so give us a listen and tell us what you think. Enjoy the Show!

One week into the new year and the All Star game is around the corner. We start the conversation with talk about the coming uptick in moves as the deadline approaches. Kane, Toews and others that will be available and where they will end up. We then segue into the Bruins GM, Don Sweeney, and how he has done for the last three years. Has he improved? We touch on some milestones and those that are on the horizon but very close. Bo Horvat's name is linked to going everywhere; add Seattle to that mix. Matt Dumba will be a UFA at the end of the season...will he make it to the end of the season with the Wild? We talk about our new Twitter Poll and the results from our last one (link below). The Penguins seem to have an issue with consistency and Jeff Marek talked to Shayna Goldman about this very subject. We add our two cents. Finally, is the Winter Classic still about the game or is it about the spectacle? We attempt to answer the question. Congrats to Victor Hedman and the new addition to his family and we wish a full recovery to Damar Hamlin in Buffalo! Give us a listen and enjoy the Show!

As the calendar rolls over into the year 2023, we at the Two Man Forecheck wish everyone a fabulous new year and much luck in whatever you do! Here we continue with the hockey talk, but start with sad news of the passing of Kris Letang's father. He wasn't scheduled to play today however this is a blow to the Letang family and we send our prayers and condolences to them. Matthew Poitras recorded a hat trick on December 28 and was player of the night. The Bruins may have something here based on his performance over the last season and a half. Jamie Benn has moved into second in goals scored for the Dallas Stars, but is still 200+ goals behind Mike Modano. Will Jamie catch him? Patrice Bergeron is in 3rd in points for Bruins all time with Esposito (an ongoing theme), but is there any movement in other categories for the 5 time Selke winner? Connor Bedard is clearly going to be the number one overall pick this year, but his WJC stats indicate that he is clearly something special. Ovi has recorded his 30th hat trick of his career, which puts him at 806. He will catch Gretzky, but will he get to 1,000 goals? Finally we close out the first show of the new year with some second half questions that can only be answered over the course of the next few months. So join in and start a new tradition listening to the Two Man Forecheck. Let us know what you think and...Enjoy the Show! Happy New Year!
